Youth Hero Recognition Award (2020)

Cowgirl 911 is a community group founded to assist farmers, ranchers, and livestock & animal owners during the evacuations of the 2020 western Oregon wildfires that began over Labor Day weekend. During these turbulent and terrifying times, members of the community stepped up as volunteers to help their fellow animal and livestock owning Oregonians. Amongst these heroes is a special class of the next generation; the Cowgirl 911 Youth Heroes, who went above and beyond the call of duty to assist their community’s livestock evacuation needs.

Their skills, care and time volunteering with dispatch, assisting catching & loading animals to get them to safety, working as assistants to veterinarians or evacuation relief center managers, spending long hours at evacuation sites cleaning stalls & caring for evacuated animals as if they were their own, and many other capacities were indispensable during these times.

Nominations closed on October 10, 2020, at 11:59 pm PST.
