How we began…

Founded on September 8, 2020, Cowgirl 911 was an Oregon and Pacific Northwest specific livestock animal evacuation group on Facebook. With the intentions of connecting those in need of evacuation assistance with those volunteers able to transport, founder Katie Schrock started a Google Spreadsheet that included two pages. The first page was for those in need of immediate assistance (which also included time stamps and updates) and the second page was for those that had either facilities or hauling resources to assist those in need.

After just a few hours of being live, Schrock had enlisted her sister, Nicole, to assist in updating forms as she coordinated dispatches throughout Oregon as 37 fires burned on half a million acres! Moments after the origination of the Facebook community group, Raquel Bauer, joined as an administrator, coordinator, dispatcher, and human resources. That night, she was contacted by Amanda Blum, a stranger to Katie but one that had an idea on how to streamline the dispatching system through an online Google Form and ticketing process. Amanda built a team of Dispatch Volunteers who took an online training and the 2020 Pacific NW Wildfire Animal Rescue Dispatch Team was founded.

Through the next ten days, the Cowgirl 911 team with the PNW Wildfire Animal Rescue Dispatch Team were able to assist roughly 20,000 animals find their way to safety. In livestock terms, nearly $10 million dollars worth of animals were relocated out of harms ways at both public and private evacuation facilities. Dispatch teams were able to assist these individuals get home and the Facebook group continued to serve those looking to donate and receive supplies, forage, grains, etc.

As Cowgirl 911 moves into the future, our mission is to continue assisting those registered non-profits that give so much to the people whose way of life depends on the land and animals. Together we can all give a little to help make a better future for many people who have lost everything due to natural disasters or worse.

The Cowgirl 911 public Facebook Page and Instagram are dedicated solely to updated resources and the success stories of the Cowgirl 911 group. If you have a story, contact us via the pages today to get your story told!
